Why aren't hard drives with capacities greater than 2TB or 4TB recognised under the Windows XP operating system?

Hard drives with capacities greater than 2TB cannot be recognized under Windows XP operating systems due to limitations in that older technology. Several 32-bit operating systems do not support 6TB or 8TB hard drives. Windows 7/8/10 or other 64-bit operating systems are thus recommended instead.
